Before discussing how has social media changed our world , its important to clearly understand what is social media exactly ?

Social media refers to websites or application designed for people to share content quickly, efficiently and in real time. As the time goes by now day people refers social media to apps on their mobile phone or tablet, this new definition has driven many changes towards our life, work and even our worlds.

With the rapid development of technology , social media has become the most popular tools people use in their spare or even busy times. According to researches 5.112 billion people own a mobile phone , this can provide platform for users to access social media and 3.484 billion people are active social media users. The large amount of user for social media indicate our world has changed , from the past where you have an opinion and could only tell people close to you. But now days with social media like Facebook, Youtube, Instagram , Twitter and Snapchats you can deliver message or news to thousands of people with in few minutes. This change has not only given us hints on how we should change the way we live and behave , but also impacting on how we buy and spend too.

How social media is changing digital marketing?

Research has shown that more and more companies are choosing to utilise digital marketing strategies to improve their bottom line and increase brand recognition among markets.

Business over the globe can now be able to deliver their message to a more extensive crowd than they would ever dream of doing before achieving success that they could only wish for.In the old days, mass media ruled. An organisation needed to horse up thousands or even a huge number of dollars to be heard much of the time. Extremely substantial organisations with profound pockets governed the perch. Just those organisations could afford to have wider reach. But now days everything has changed ,90% of brands use social media to increase brand awareness. Business now are given the opportunity to use media on a low cost or even free to deliver the message they want to customers. Also if business want to have efficient engagement or direct message to customers they can use social media to create paid media which is paying money to popular platforms like Facebook , Instagram and youtube to have their message delivered. As 91% of Australian have Facebook, 53% for Youtube and 15% on Instagram, this figures shows that the amount of people using social media is huge so by choosing the correct platform can lead to a huge increase in business customers as 77% of business believe social media will result their brand to increase.People might think its a waste of paying money where you can attract customers by using the social media for free ! This is true business can use owned media which is to create their own social media channels and have message delivered through their accounts or websites directly , on the other hand they have earned media which is other people spreading words about your brand to their friends and to the public. The advancement of technology has given way too many benefits to peoples daily life and help business to earn more profits, anything have a both sides so does social media, the incorrect use of social media can lead to serious disaster.

How social media can start quick but also end quick too .

The incorrect use of social media can lead business to lose reputation which drives to negative brand image and causing the customer trends to decrease , at the same time social media can make an ordinary to become famous online and become celebrity for example Kate Upton and can even destroy peoples reputation and status. A recent accident of girl using snapchat while driving has ended her life. This shows us that social media can provide platform for us and even help us to start quick , when we don’t use them correctly we can end in an instance. This provides a hint for business to pay attention towards the use of social media , its similar to the accident the girl should know when to use social media and when to not to , where business need to be aware of what content should be provide and how to use it correctly.

  1. Hi fanjiang1 – Social media has its positives and it’s negatives. 30 years ago, brands could still market to consumers and engage wider audiences in a similar manner. Therefore, I think the use of social media needs to be respected, as it can do more harm than good!

    • Yes, thats totally true where it can do more harm than good! So i think nowadays people should learn how to behave safe on social media and use it in the correct time , as peoples privacy is easily to be hacked and leaked out . Also for digital marketing the trends of using social media like face book or linkedin has been decreasing for large organisation , whats your thought towards this area?

  2. Social media used to be a platform exclusively to share our experience to other people through posting words, pictures, or videos. Nowadays, it revolves around business; how to generate more profit, and all those annoying unskippable advertisement on YouTube.

    Eventhough having social media as a marketing platform is a really good thing, it sucks because social media has derailed from what it used to be; just a place to share.

    • Yes that so true, social media have changed in to a place for business to generate money , i personally hate the youtube ads too , not sure if you are aware that youtube ads have changed 1 to 2 ? So sometimes you will have 2 ads !!!! Forcing some people to sign up membership to avoid ads , but have to admit social media have provide a huge platform for business to engage and attract customers.
