HOW DID UBER STAND OUT?

When discussing about Uber many of us knows its cheap, convenient and trustworthy. But how many of us know the true story behind the company , what made it successful and how did they take the opportunity ?In this blog i was be talking about the background information about uber and how they spot the opportunity and went beyond.

Firstly, Make full use of network effects

Uber’s success is inseparable from the network effect. The more drivers the platform enters, the more services it provides to users. The more users, the more users will attract more and more drivers to enter the platform.

Uber’s technology, infrastructure and brand value have laid a solid foundation for the implementation of its empire strategy. In the short term, Uber and drivers will use subsidies to attract users. In the long run, the large number of users accumulated on the platform will greatly benefit UberEATS, UberRUSH, Uber Fresh and Uber Cargo. The huge leverage and Uber’s early exploration of the sharing economy will also increase the confidence of financial institutions and investors in the project.

Secondly,Great inspiration – one-click service interface

Uber was inspired by a snowy night in 2008, when two co-founders(Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp) stood in the snow but couldn’t get the car late, so they came up with the idea of developing a fool application and calling the car with one click. This great inspiration was later practiced, Uber, which you and I are familiar with, and is responsible for many companies, such as the Amazon Dash Button one-click shopping and Sweden’s portable smart button Flic.

For Uber, the one-click service interface guarantees a high user experience and creates an attractive marketing gimmick, so it is also considered an important part of Uber’s strategic layout.

Thirdly,Fundamentally optimize the value chain

One-click service interface brings a large number of users, and the optimized value chain will make these users become active users. Compared to traditional service processes, Uber streamlines the entire process from order placement to delivery. The three key factors are:

1) Simplify the process (one-click access to taxi, takeaway, fresh, etc.)

2) Speed up (from order to delivery, time is greatly reduced)

3) Trust (both users and service providers have enough trust)

Lastly,Step by step brand marketing

At the beginning of the establishment, start-ups often need to attract users through subsidies and discounts. The first month of UberEATS testing in New York is also completely free, and the local take-away service is usually around $4 each; Uber also offers free rides in the San Francisco area and sponsors technology conferences to provide free services.

Internet and technology industry practitioners are more willing to share and follow the trend of the new trend, for Uber to cultivate the first seed users of the late virus transmission. Afterwards, Uber seized the opportunity of the Boston driver’s strike to provide free rides to students trapped in the school, thus establishing a good social image.

All of these are free live ads for Uber brand marketing. Many companies believe that even negative news is stronger than no news, and this concept coincides with Uber’s marketing strategy. Around the regulatory issues and non-contractual workers’ disputes, Uber won a lot of headlines on the media. Along with these five strategies, Uber is bound to promote continuous innovation in new markets, new services and new industries around the world.

So the question is how should Uber take action in order to keep the lead and reputation ? If a new company want to over come Uber what strategy is required ?

  1. I agree with you that Uber is the leader in providing transportation service and here’s are some actions I believe Uber should consider in maintaining its current performance.

    1. Personalize – Why should I take uber but not a bus or train? It’s all about the experience, making it unique and appealing to the user is the priority. Therefore, think about this, allowing the user to customise the type of cars they want to be in or even the colour and personality of the driver. Will it improve customer satisfaction? I think the answer is YES.

    2. Filter – Uber should enhance the selection of driver or deliver, it is important to understand that the quality of the service is provided by someone else. If anyone can become a Uber driver then how can you guarantee the service is at a standard and how can you guarantee to the customer that he/she is safe? There’s actually an increase of crime commitment made by the uber driver in recent years. The key success of Uber is the word “sharing”. This means having a portion of something with another or other, which should include things like safety and happiness. However, if this proportion is imbalance we call this taking an advantage. Here is a link include all the crime committed by the uber driver, free feel to have a look and what you can find is shocking.

    • Thats totally true Tom , as Uber is the leader for providing transportation their biggest threats is safety issues , because its not them who are driving they are hiring others to drive, so its important they can put more action towards this sector and ensure customer are satisfied and feel safe. Also this can be explained by a Chinese company DIDI its same as uber, they have experienced few rape and murder cases with the driver and customer. So this tells us by choosing the correct driver is crucial for customers safety and the brand reputation !

  2. Uber has done a really good job in targeting particular audiences and becoming the leaders of several industries. The level of safety consumers feel with Uber is overwhelmingly positive, and Uber is leading the way in terms of transportation sharing.

  3. Uber is sucessful as they understand their clients very well. They label themselves being “convenient”, “affordable” and “fast” to attract mainly teens/young adults that cannot afford a car. However, Uber is only convenient and affordable on an ordinary day. On days where there are extreme weathers or interruptions to public transports, Uber increase their prices by a fortune. Consequently, it can be concluded that Uber is a hypocritical and money-hungry business. To compete with Uber, companies simply need to ensure they are providing service and convenience to their customers at all times. The point of these Uber services should never be about taking advantage of the customers merely for personal benefits.

    • Thanks for reading Amy. I totally agree with you , all your points are on spot ! Companies can over take uber by creating same quality of service but cheaper and safer ! The whole problem with Uber , Didi and Lyft now days is safety issue, so they should put more effort towards selecting driver and providing a safer experience, This will create a better customer journey map !
